Biography

Carlo Garof is a musician of the new millennium who ranges from avant rock to the territories of total improvisation, from avant garde jazz to contemporary Eurocolta music. He plays the drums, often "prepared" using recycled materials to create unusual sounds. His training is exemplary in understanding his musical interests and the variety of his artistic thinking.

Born in Milan in 1975, at the age of four he received the first rudiments of music and singing in a choir and, fascinated by home objects seen from a sound perspective, he naturally approaches the world of percussion. As a teenager he began playing drums in youth rock, crossover, punk, metal and funk bands. Later he was struck by jazz thanks to listening to " A Love Supreme " by John Coltrane and this interest led him to graduate from the International Academy of Jazz Music in Milan. He completes his training with the in-depth study of African music in countries such as Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso and with various improvement workshops between New York and Boston (NEC). He later obtained a diploma in music therapy in Milan.

This plurality of knowledge makes him a versatile musician with an intense concert activity behind him: he plays in national and international festivals, in prestigious theaters and jazz clubs, with personalities such as Airto Moreira, Billy Cobham, Antonello Salis, Enrico Rava, Mederic Coulignon, Gianluigi Trovesi, Achille Succi, Umberto Petrin, Franco D'andrea, Enrico Intra, Irio De Paula, Luis Agudo, Paolo Angeli, Roberto Dani, Paolo Damiani, Gak Sato, Steve Piccolo, Carlo Virzi, Cristiano Calcagnile, Stefano Giust, Michele Tadini, Adriano Guarnieri, Big Band International Academy of Jazz Music in Milan, Sotigui Kouyate ', Seidou Dao, Sourakatha Djabatè, Cecilia Chailly, Daniele Cavallanti, Tiziana Ghiglioni, Giovanni Falzone, Erik Legnini, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Flavio Boltro, Zeno de Rossi , Aldo Mella, Andrea Ayassot, Roberto Fabbriciani, John Colpits, Stefano Benni, The Theater of Horrors, Pierpaolo Capovilla.

He is the founder of the art-rock band Tongs and the post-rock band Hollow Bone.

The love and passion for the culture of the Native American peoples lead him to deepen several aspects including the practice of traditional drums.

He has collaborated in the realization of readings, films, installations, theatrical performances in Italy and West Africa (Mali) and has played for exhibitions (vernissage, finissage) at various art galleries including the Triennale di Milano (Jean-Michel Basquiat) and the PAC-Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan (Chen Zhen).

He has published record works with numerous Italian and foreign labels (Feltrinelli, Warner Bros, Long Song Records, Dodicilune, Rogues Records, La Tempesta, Sinusite, Velut Luna, Full Color Sound, Philology records, Dreamingorilla Rec).
